Brancusi’s infamous 1929 portrait of James Joyce dwells on the evocation of fragmented emotion. This artwork presents a spiral at its centre, separated by three abstract lines; a juxtaposition that inspired the Nouveau Réalisme necklace. The prominence of the malachite gemstone’s natural markings adds a unique flair, which helps to highlight the synchronicity of the infinite and the intangible; a sentiment that Brancusi explored in his work.
