Molly Park

“Portrait of Curiosity” illuminates the passions and intimate musings of one fabulous woman of substance. In our sixth instalment, we talk to London-based Creative Director Molly Park.

Next in our line-up of fabulous women is Molly Park: design director of mindful stationery brand, Papier and founder of Parc Studio; a multidisciplinary design studio, based in London. Often inspired by her personal travel experiences and the aesthetics and stories of local cultures, Molly continuously contemplates the influence of design on our cultural, environmental and emotional landscapes. Evident throughout her successful and visually impactful collections, her design philosophy centres on crafting objects of utility that are kind to the planet while inspiring self-expression, creativity and joy.

01 THE OBJECTS I FIND THE MOST JOY IN CREATING ARE

lighting and furniture. I love creating the perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics.

02 A TECHNIQUE OR PROCESS THAT FASCINATES ME IS

reactive glaze applied on ceramics. You never know exactly what you are going to get and I love the spontaneity of it all.

03 FOR ME DESIGN IS AT ITS BEST WHEN

it evokes a positive, emotional reaction that lasts. In the digital age, everything is fast and fleeting. Design should be like love: an initial spark followed by a prolonged burn.

04 I WAS MOST RECENTLY INSPIRED BY

my visit to Jeju Island* in South Korea. I found the most incredible book there which told the history of Jeju through the use of vintage maps.

05 THE PLACE IN THE WORLD THAT I AM LONGING TO VISIT

the Pacific Islands. I'm obsessed with the history of the Pacific Islanders. I find the fact that they sailed thousands of miles and lived in harmony with nature utterly fascinating.

06 THE HOMEWARE ITEM I'M EYEING RIGHT NOW

the 9602 floor lamp by Paavo Tynell (via Beton Brut).

07 SOMEONE I WOULD LIKE TO COLLABORATE WITH

Estelle: of course!

08 A GADGET I CANNOT DO WITHOUT

I'm more of a pen and paper person… I do work in stationery after all! So, I would have to say my Papier notebook. Whenever I get an idea, I tend to write it down so that I don't forget and so I always carry a notebook with me everywhere I go.

MOLLY'S FAVOURITE THINGS

01 The work of Alexander Calder.

02 The Noguchi exhibition at the Barbican.

03 The "Two metres, Five" necklace.

04 Cushions picked up on her travels, woven by local artisans: the perfect travel souvenir.

05 The Wishbone chair by Hans J. Wegner
