Daisy Walker

“Portrait of Curiosity” illuminates the passions and intimate musings of one fabulous woman of substance. In our tenth instalment, we talk to London-based photographer Daisy Walker.

Daisy Walker is a London-based photographer known for evocative images exploring the innate power of and relationship between the feminine form and nature. Often depicting sunlight-dappled bodies framed by scatterings of foliage, her intimate portraits, at once primal and tender, sensual and empowering, offer invitations for self-healing through a reclaiming of the female gaze. Her style, saturated with environmentalism and influenced by a childhood spent in nature, has seen her collaborate with clients such as Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood. In 2015 she founded Women in Fashion – a non-profit tackling inequality in the industry and in 2018 she released, ‘Solace’ – a series of nude self-portraits sold as postcards, raising money for survivors of sexual abuse.

01 THE MOMENT I FELL IN LOVE WITH IMAGE MAKING WAS

my Grandma was a fearsome traveller. She travelled alone up until the age of 90 to far-flung places, always coming home with a few rolls of film and a handful of good stories. Those images* lined the walls of her staircase and would begin a passion in me to create memories and tell stories through image-making.

*Pictured here: her grandmother's images, reprinted by Daisy.

02 A PHOTOGRAPH THAT ALWAYS BRINGS ME JOY

anything my husband takes.

03 THE UPCOMING PROJECT I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT

I'm working on a zine* that will be released this year. It documents a reconciliation between the Earth and us, its inhabitants. With open letters from people with existing relationships to the natural world it explores the remarkable in nature, as well as the precariousness of our reliance upon it.

*Pictured here: an extract from Daisy's upcoming zine.

04 WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS

researching!

05 MY MOST UNEXPECTED INFLUENCE WAS

our dog. No matter the weather, no matter your mood, she forces you out of the house and into nature; into our little local community. I find those connections very inspiring and nurturing.

06 A CREATIVE WHOSE WORK I NEVER TIRE OF

07 THE PROCESS THAT I FIND MOST REWARDING IS

hand-printing.

08 I WAS MOST RECENTLY INSPIRED BY
